Exercise 2

1. Understanding Signatures
In book design, a
signature refers to a group of
pages—typically 16—that are folded and bound together. Signatures play a
key role in the bookbinding process.
When designing a book, the total number of pages should be divisible by 4
to ensure that the signatures align properly and to avoid paper waste.
2. Page Count and Divisibility
Each signature should ideally contain a page count divisible by 16 (e.g.,
16, 32, 48). However, additional pages can be added in multiples of 4
(e.g., 20, 24) to maintain proper structure.
This helps in maximizing paper usage and supports efficient binding
Exercise 3
fig1.3
In this exercise, guided by Mr. Vinod’s video tutorial, we begin by
sketching the Van de Graaf structure on an A3 sheet. Then, we recreate it
digitally in InDesign
